Although Toshiba lists this as a 35" TV the screen actually measures a full 36"; I know this because I just bought one and have measured it. I bought this TV because I wanted a good large screen TV with a very sharp picture at a reasonable price. Sharp pictures at reasonable prices are typical of Toshiba TVs, which may well be the best buys currently available.

Yes, this model -- despite it's sharp picture -- is not high-definition and it has the traditional 4:3 aspect ratio rather than a widescreen 16:9 ratio. But my cable system currently broadcasts 175 channels in the traditional 4:3 aspect ratio and only 9 widescreen high-definition channels. Widescreen 16:9 TVs have smaller pictures with gray bars on the side when displaying traditional 4:3 channels. Furthermore, because the screen on this TV is so large, when I watch letter-boxed widescreen DVDs the picture size is quite acceptable.

Widescreen high-definition broadcasts and widescreen high-definition TVs will be the norm in a few years, at which time the prices of such sets will be significantly lower than they are now. However, with the current situation where most channels still display traditional 4:3 pictures and only a few are in widescreen and high definition, a large screen 4:3 TV is a good economical choice for many people at this time.

I gave this item 5 stars because it does everything it advertises. This item was easy to assemble and nearly idiot proof with the built-in level and included stud finder. Had it assembled on the wall with the TV in about 30 minutes.

But......now you have to hook up all your devices to the TV and the clearance this wall mount gives you, which is nearly nothing) makes something as simple as plugging an HDMI cable to the back a 3 person chore (2 to lift the TV off the mount and 1 to plug it in).

If you are looking to just plug something in and never mess with the back inputs EVER again this is worth it. But if you ever want to be able to have someone bring over their PS3/Xbox/Etc and be able to plug it in and play I recommend a mount with tilt.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the unit, it seems to be well made and looks great. The descriptions matched to my expectations and despite other reviews indicating damage due to insufficent shipping protection, everything arrived in good condition. A couple of observations for those considering the unit: First the minor ones: (1) it is VERY heavy, I'm not looking forward to moving it in the future (but this also speaks to the overall quality); (2) the assembly instructions are pretty cryptic but once you get the concept, you can see how the whole thing is engineered; although, I ended up with extra pieces (I assume Salamander provides extras "just in case" and a couple where I had (and still have) no clue what to do with. For the major "gotcha": it's a real pain to try and get everything adjusted correctly, as the shelves, doors, and feet are all movable'adjustable; this part has been the most time-consuming (literally hours) so be prepared with a good level (the one Salamander provides is so small as to be useless)and lots of patience.

This a beautiful cabinet. It was well packed and the delivery by Pilot Freight was early. The only problem I have is that the shelves are not adjustable. Pwr with steel Stud Brkt, Silver Review

This guy is massive; really heavy-duty. It weighs nearly as much as the 60" screen we mounted with it. Just Installing it to the wall is definitely a 2-person job, attaching the screen makes the whole project a 3-person deal.

So far, the only negative, and it is significant in a way but didn't end up being a show-stopper, was that out of the box the top wall mount rail was bent so that it is far from parallel to the bottom rail. We had a lot of scheduling issues trying to get this installed, and it looked like this damage/mis-manufacture would not interfere with function, so we took a chance and installed it anyway. It looks a bit peculiar from behind the screen, but is invisible from the front when actually viewing. It feels to me that it is stiffer than I'd like to pull the screen forward or push it back, which may well be due to the bent piece, but it is acceptable.

I suspect that we wouldn't have had any difficulties had we decided to return/exchange the item.

Salamander Synergy 402 A/V Component Cabinet (Walnut/Silver) Review

I took some time to find a new audio video rack for my small home theater I put together and was looking forward to receiving this rack. When the box arrived it wasn't damaged however when I opened the unit the shelves were placed in the box without any shipping material between the individual shelves. The result was that each shelf was scratched. I know that these will be hidden in the unit under the components but for the money I really wish they invested a few cents for packing material between each shelf. The next issue is that the unit did not arrive with assembly instructions. I had to utilize the instructions from the Salamander web site (PDF) file which did not include how the door attached to the unit (Its obvious though for anyone who has assembled furniture before though). The last issue is that the unit does not come with wheels, which I highly recommend doing (most new AV tuners are 60 pds alone + all the other component weights add up to something that would benefit from wheels). Wheels cost $$$ extra, they are nice but way over priced.

Dark Wood Lcd Tv Stand Review

This stand is beautiful, perhaps the most elegant I found online or offline. It has a nice contour, great color combination of dark wood and tempered glass. The open design not only cools your components better but also lets light shine through so the unit and your wall in the back look much brighter and better than the older, more closed design.

The wood is not as lustrous as I expected but it was alright. The wood is also a bit thinner than I thought as the cross-sections are not nearly square as I thought and cannot tell by looking at the picture. However, it seems sturdy enough.

For regular audio/video components, it is definitely good enough. However if you have high-end amplifiers, which tends to be very heavy (like over 40 lbs apeace), it may still be okay but concerns me a bit.

The delivery was on time in about 4 to 5 weeks as it was made and shipped overseas. The item is very well packed for the long shipping trip.

Overall I am quite happy with this item although, if I had the option, I would have given it 4.5 instead of 5 stars.
