So, I bought this without any illusions that my PS2 display quality would miraculously become high definition, but because my new A/V receiver was so exclusive to HDMI connectivity...and we still play games on our PS2.

So rather than mothball the console, I found this little gem of a converter and decided it wouldn't be too much money if it actually worked. And it does! This converter does exactly what it's advertised to do and sends audio and video through an HDMI cable with no signal loss that I can detect. (I did specifically test the audio being received through the HDMI cable only) The video is successfully up-converted to HD format, and the display is no worse than before.

One thing I haven't tried is the 3.5mm audio out jack on the converter, but I'm actually surprised it's there at all. The PS2 has an optical audio out that would be preferred to anything utilizing the analog jack, unless you're prone to using headphones while playing. But since the console doesn't have one of these in the first place, why would you own headphones that connect to such a jack?

Regarding the supplied USB cable, there's not much to add. The converter is USB powered and the cable has ample length to route in front of the console where the USB connectors are located. It's not the most visually appealing setup, but few workarounds are for those of us with sentimental attachments to older equipment :o)

So all in all, we got what was paid for and it performs as advertised. It arrived via USPS, which is not the most reliable in terms of tracking updates, but it arrived precisely when it was supposed to. This was a good purchase.
