We're a school that does some fairly high-end (televised) production. We first bought a Blackmagic Television Studio version and it was too limiting. So we went for the 1 M/E. The switcher seems fine. It's 70% there. But DO NOT USE the included software-- Media express. It crashes and you lose your live broadcast. Note the term "live broadcast." It's gone for good.

The black magic people seem to fill a niche for those of us who cannot afford major production equipment. We figured out we could capture right into Adobe Premier. This works better. They seem to have some early jitters in blackmagic technology. The firmware revision for the unit stopped it from taking computer video as input (HDMI-60 hz is too much). So our graphics generator was useless. Then they said they would fix this, and we needed to reverse our update. But now the software crashes-- a LOT. Also, our HDMI signals rarely work and we needed a bunch of HDMI-SDI converters. All in all, these work. But, the glitches are frustrating. Hopefully, they clean up their software.

I'll give it a "5" when the software gets cleaned up and the inputs accept everything. We had to downsample to 720 to get it to accept some of our camera's HDMI signals. But, everything must be at the same scale. So, now we can't do 1080i.

Like I said. Frustrating, but hopeful. At least they have phone support and, it seems, an intention to right the product's faults. In this day and age, that's a plus.
