I apologize for the lengthy review. But I felt it was necessary that someone that did the research let you, the buyer, know beforehand EXACTLY what you're in for when purchasing this product.

Let's get the obvious out of the way: The Wii is not capable of outputting a High Definition picture. It's only capable of Enhanced Definition TV (EDTV) which means it can run most games in the Wii and Gamecube Libraries in 480 Progressive Scan.

Having said that, do NOT expect that this adapter will magically turn the Wii's last-generation graphics into something comparable to the PS3/XB360's visual output.

Let's weigh out the positives and negatives of this product so that you can make a definite decision if this is worth the investment.

TIP: Most people think that having the best possible connection will automatically give you the best visual experience. However, to get the best picture quality, it's actually a balance between your TV settings as well as having the highest video output you can get out of your electronic devices. I suggest you turn off ALL extra picture processing to get the PUREST video output possible. That means turn off edge enhancement, motion plus, dynamic contrast, etc. Trust me when I say you'll be doing yourself a HUGE favor.

NOW... onto the review:

Pros:
- HDMI output!: These days, most newer TVs lack built in Component/Composite connections. I myself have a Samsung LED Smart TV which requires an adapter (packaged with the TV) to plug Component/Composite cables into it. It's VERY ugly, even WITH proper cable management. The Wii HDMI adapter will allow you to employ the use of a single HDMI cable, which is absolutely great in terms of cleaning up the wiring behind your TV.

- 3.5mm audio output: A nice little addition that will let you use a separate audio source if you're planning on playing Wii on a monitor or in the case your TV has a DVI port (which accepts the HDMI's video signal but NOT accepts the audio)

- 720p/1080p toggle: There's a little pinhole on the adapter that lets you switch between the two outputs on the fly (yes, you can press it while your Wii is on and it will change accordingly, so long as your TV supports the 2 separate resolutions). While your TV will tell you what the appropriate output is, this is really no better than any up-scaling DVD player. It simply scales the video so it fits the respective resolution (which results in the ghosting effect you'll notice around objects/lines)

- Cleaner picture!: if you can recall the difference in quality between Composite video to an S-Video connection, that's basically the visual results you'll get with this adapter. I tested this on 3 different TVs: an LCD TV, a plasma TV, and finally an LED TV. In comparison, the visual quality is not much of an improvement over a Component connection on the LCD and plasma models. But... the HDMI connection cleaned up the ghosting that was so apparent when I had the Wii hooked up via Component!

Cons:
- Audio output is LOUD!: This flaw is due to the audio being analog. This may or may not bother you, but it IS noticeable (listen to the ding when navigating the Wii Menu). If you're lucky enough to dial down the audio in Wii game options, that's your best bet to remedy this (unless you use the 3.5mm audio jack and use an external audio source, this may fix the problem)

- Unit stays active while Wii is in Standby mode (yellow light). You'll notice that the device emits a blue light while active. While this is actually not a REALLY bad thing, if you're the type of person that expects the TV to shut off automatically when there's no active video signals, this may be a problem for you.

- PRICEY!: This adapter sells for roughly $35 dollars. It's hard to recommend this adapter at the current price point. I bought it because I like that I don't have to clutter the back of my TV setup with Component wires. This is more than likely the same reason you might want to opt for it; to clean up the clutter that is the Wii's wiring.

As you can see... there's a fair amount of cons to pros. So as I've said before it's REALLY hard to recommend it. If you've got Component inputs on your TV, you can pick up a cheap Wii component cable on Amazon for much cheaper than this adapter. But... if you're like me, here's the main reason I WOULD suggest it:

Portability!: Transport your Wii from place to place? This is a good alternative to carrying a bulky Component wire. As for me, I primarily use the Wii for Netflix in the bedroom, but will occasionally take it to the living room TV to play some Super Smash Bros. So really... this is the EXACT reason I have it, so all I have to do is transport JUST the console without having to go to the back of the TV and remove wiring.

Again... my DEEPEST apologies for the extreme length of this review. But I doubt you're going to find a more comprehensive review than this. I hope it helps! Thanks for reading!
