Salamander Synergy 237 A/V Cabinet w/ Three Doors (Cherry/Silver) Review

I have to come some where in between the good and bad reviews here. This is definitely not "cheap ikea wood" but it's also not quite the overall quality I expected for well over a thousand dollars. The front doors are real, solid, well crafted wood, the top and bottom (which are identical pieces of wood) are very dense, very strong composite wood with a really nice finish. Most of the hardware is good, heavy duty stuff (for instance the door hinges), but not everything. The end panels are something much cheaper and thinner, possibly a wood/polymer composition... just not what I expected for the price. It rattles when you tap on it. Also the bolts DEFINITELY show on top. I read a review that said this before I bought, but I didn't realize we were basically talking about two stacked pennies on top in 8 places. The bolts are smooth and tapered, but still...you see them even from across the room. Not a huge deal, just not what I expected for well over a grand.

I'm very happy with the way my components are stored and how well they breathe. The adjustable shelves give you the ability to give your receiver all the room in the world. I even put my center channel in there and the sound is not effected whatsoever. IR remotes work perfectly with the doors closed. I have a very minimal number of wires coming out the back; just the wires to my TV, speakers, sub, and power cord to surge protector. This unit does NOT have a real "cord management system" as I believe the description hints at. What it does have is plenty of room to tuck away wires that you bundle and strong black plastic removable backing to cover it all up.

Overall, I would say this is a high quality unit with a brilliantly simple, well thought out design...just not QUITE worth the price tag. If I had to guess, I'd say they put a lot of money into R&D and not quite as much into the final product. If the price was down around $950 I would have given it 5 stars.

I purchased this product after a long search for a stand/flat panel combination to fill a 55h x 57w inch hole in a built-in entertainment center, formally occupied by an old rear projection TV. This stand is one of the few available with the right dimensions to do this.

Delivery from Amazon via the third party store was no problem. I ordered it on a Friday and it arrived the following Wednesday by truck. The box came through in good shape, shrink-wrapped to a small wooden pallet. It's really heavy, though. Get some help if you plan to move it any distance.

Assembly was a little involved but straight forward if you follow the instructions carefully. The unit goes together with a clever combination of bolts, dowels, cam fasteners, and threaded rods. All you need is a screwdriver, it comes with an allen wrench and even a little tube of white glue for for the dowels. Of note, the metal fasteners are high quality, which can be an issue with some Chinese-made products. The middle glass shelf has three positions, but it would be difficult to change it once the stand is assembled. So, measure your components before assembly! The biggest challenge in assembly was aligning the large (and heavy) bottom and top wooden shelves over the multiple dowels, pins, and rods. Really a two-person job. Total assembly time (working very deliberately) was about 90 minutes.

The end result is a very solid but rather utilitarian-looking stand. Fit and finish is excellent. Maybe not the best choice for a formal living room, but just fine for my finished basement. Looks great with my new 60-inch flat panel and fits the space with just enough room for good air circulation. Highly recommended.

This is a very solid wall-mounting plate. I bought one of these from this vendor. It sat in my closet for a few months before I hooked it up: I thought it was going to be a lot of trouble to install it. It was a lot less work than I thought it would be. Take your time when installing it and get someone to help you. I did it by myself. I thought I was going to drop the TV. It's pretty heavy and you can't see what you're doing when you hang it on the bracket. Once I did it wrong one or twice and then did it right, I realized it was easy. Even if you don't have someone who will be able to help lift it, if you at least have someone to watch the bracket that's attached to the back of the TV as you hang it onto the wall bracket part, someone to help to guide you, it will make it much easier. And your arms won't be shaking all day afterwards. If you attach the screws to the wall properly as the instructions say and have enough of them, you won't have to worry about your TV falling off the wall one night.

I bought this item because my tv room is quite narrow and also because I have a large receiver and center speaker that required more depth than most of the component stands offer. I was impressed with how easy it was to assemble this unit. I was also quite pleased with how sturdy it is because my receiver is quite heavy. Unit is solid and easy to mount. Adjustable on the horizontal plane to allow me to scoot the fixture forward or backward over the aquarium. NOT adjustable on the vertical plane, so unless you want to remove it and try again, get it right the first time. The feature which allows you to raise it up and lock for tank maintenance is nice. I would have given this mount 5 stars, but for one deficit that really bothers me. There is no channel for your module cables. They will have to run down one side of the wall mount or hang in front of it, which for me compromises a good deal of the sleek look. Sticky back cable guides were included which will help, but not much. I don't understand why the hollow vertical side rails of this mount were not left capless. It would have allowed all the cables to be routed through them, making them totally invisible. My build is based on a rimless tank with no canopy, so I'm striving for the cleanest, sleekest look possible. Hanging and visible cables were not part of the plan. Despite this, I would buy again, because I'm totally sold on Ecoxotic's products. 5 stars for the awesomeness, -1 for the lack of cable management.
