Blackmagic Design Battery Converter HDMI to SDI Review

I got the BM Battery Converter (HDMI to SDI) today from Amazon and was excited to put it to use but after installing the software, I was simply not getting any signal coming through. I was suspecting that the problem was with the HD-SDI cable I got but when I searched through the reviews for the same product at bhphotovideo dot com, I found the solution (thanks to a reviewer RW, July 2013).

Here's what you need to do.

1) Go to Blackmagic's site and download the old software (it must be version 1.9). You can find this file under "Blackmagic Converters 2.1 for Macintosh->Archived drivers".
2) Install version 1.9 and then connect the Battery Converter using a USB cable to your laptop. Open up the app "Blackmagic Converter Utility." Let it update the software to v1.9. Restart your computer.

After this, the Battery Converter should work fine! Blackmagic's products haven't been as reliable as I'd hoped. You really have to snoop around to find basic instructions for making their products work. I had a similar issue with the UltraStudio MiniRecorder. Thankful for the bhphotovideo reviewers!
