I purchased this product specifically to use while travelling with the family. Most hotels now offer free cable and often have nice HD flat-screen televisions in-room, but travellers are still at the mercy of whatever happens to be on when relaxing during the few hours between the day's activities and bed. Sure, everyone can read a book, listen to music or play a game individually, but an activity the family can enjoy together is preferable. My goal for this trip was to use my smartphone (HTC Rezound) and this cable to let us watch shows from our Netflix queue. This worked brilliantly and was an unqualified success. An added bonus was that we were able to find a video on YouTube that was relevant to one of the historic places visited during the day, so raised the level of the activity from mere mindless relaxation to enhancement of the vacation experience itself. A nice and unanticipated surprise.

Some comments about the product itself:

The key feature for me was the all-in-one nature of the cable. For travel, it was a lot more convenient than carrying around a USB-HDMI adapter and a separate HDMI cable. Setup was as easy as reaching into my computer bag, pulling out the single cable assembly and plugging it in. It's a small convenience, but one that is appreciated at the end of a long tiring day. The thickness and flexibility of the built-in HDMI cable was also better than a separate cable might provide (the cable was thinner, more flexible and generally less bulky than the dedicated HDMI cables currently in use at home). This could affect picture/audio quality, I suppose, but wasn't noticeable when testing at home.

The lengths of the various segments are just about right. The 6-foot USB-to-HDMI segment allows the phone to be placed within easy reach in front of the television when the HDMI port is at the back of the TV. The only downside is that the micro USB power jack coming out of the HDMI plug is quite short - it's possible a 3-foot charging cable might not reach from the nearest wall outlet to the back of the TV. This is easily remedied by packing a standard extension cord just in case, or perhaps a longer USB to micro USB cable or a USB extension cable.

As mentioned in other reviews, the USB cable that came with your phone might not fit the USB power jack if non-standard, so be sure to check before you travel - you may need to purchase or find one that fits. Any *standard* USB to micro USB cable should work. In my case, the USB cable from my original Droid worked just fine, so I used that.

Picture quality was excellent. 1080p video files stored on the phone itself displayed with full resolution on a 1080p capable television and were automatically downscaled when played on a 720p capable TV. If you want to be guaranteed full resolution (or the ability to watch something if WiFi or your phone connection is poor), load a few videos on your phone.

The Netflix video quality was another story. It was quite blocky/pixellated, but this seems to be due to the Netflix app itself, not the cable or the phone. I suspect this is an anti-piracy feature built into the Netflix app itself (otherwise you could just stream with full quality to a recording device). From across the room on the sofa, though, the pixellation wasn't noticeable and didn't detract from enjoyment. It could be annoying if sitting close to the television, though, so set your expectations accordingly. In any case this is not the fault of the cable (as far as I know), so doesn't reflect on the quality of the product.

All-in-all, well worth the purchase price and highly recommended.
