I had a bunch of old commercial (Disney, various store-bought movies, and workout)VHS tapes I wanted to back up to my DVR and burn DVDs of - as the tapes were 10-20 years old and starting to get noisy and fail - and my old 4-Head VHS unit wasn't worth fixing if it quit. The GREX was easy to install and worked quite well allowing me to dupe all my old stuff (for backup and personal use of course). In addition, I put it between the auxiliary out on my DISH receiver and my separate DVR and can archive shows off the built in DVR of the DISH unit (by replaying in real time and re-recording them). In all cases, there is a little added noise from the GREX unit. It is a narrow pale horizontal bar of yellow shifted pixels about 1/6th of the way up the screen - I doubt most people would even notice, but if you play it back on a HD system, it is somewhat apparent, depending on how 'busy' and what color the background is. For duping shows off the DISH receiver, there is a little extra noise introduced by the repeated digital conversion (first DISH is digital, then output as analog through the GREX and re-digitized by my external DVR). It's tolerable, but if you really care about quality, it's no match for buying an original DVD or Blueray disk. I'd give it a 'B', it allows all to be copied, slightly degrades image quality. Took a couple of weeks to be deliver (it comes from out of country) but the postage was cheap, and with Amazon assurance, I felt pretty good about ordering this. Some similar products from other vendors may or not work better, but I was less comfortable with their web stores.
