I ordered the Etekcity USB 2.0 to HDMI DVI Video Converter to be used to connect to a HD TV, and as a replacement for my old tower PC's faulty built-in VGA video adapter, which lost one of the colors. I have been using it for about a month now.

Once I got the converter connected and set up, it has been working fairly well. However, when I scroll on my Firefox browser, it makes an annoying crackling noise via the TV speakers. The audio is set up by connecting the audio cable into the PC's sound card speaker port. This makes sense, since HDMI carries both video and audio signals. I think that something within the converter must be causing the interference between the video and audio signals when scrolling. It is a bit annoying, but tolerable.

When installing the included software, be aware that it comes on a mini-CD disc that is titled in Chinese on the disc itself, with no English translation. The good thing is that the software itself is in English. If I remember right, I had to copy the files from the disc to the hard drive to get it to install. I don't think it would install from the disc itself.

After installing it, the device acts like a 2nd video adapter or monitor, like on a laptop when you connect it to a projector. So I have screen #1 via the PC's VGA port and screen #2 via the converter. Since I am only using the HD TV as the monitor, I had to connect the VGA cable to the TV, as well as the HDMI cable (not included with the converter) to a HDMI port on the TV. By default, the video will display via the VGA connection. So in Microsoft Windows (I am using XP version), I had to change the video graphics display properties to show screen #2. Since I am using this converter to display my screen all of the time via HDMI, due to my VGA colors being messed up, I set screen # 2 to be the default monitor. So when my PC boots up into Windows, the VGA comes on first. Once the converter's driver starts and enables, it automatically switches to the HDMI converter and displays on my TV's HDMI port. This is really nice, so I did not have to buy another graphics card or motherboard (the graphics is on the motherboard). This converter runs from the USB 2.0 port, so bypasses the graphics adapter altogether, except for the initial setup.

Although I am using this with a tower PC, this device would also be good for a laptop that does not have a HDMI port built-in. The software is supposed to be able to run in Windows XP, Vista, or 7. I am using the older version of the 3 OSs, and it works.

Overall, I like this product, but am annoyed by the interference sound and the installation disc. It does display videos very well, with stereo sound. Great for watching YouTube or other on-line videos on a HD TV.
