I purchased this converter to strip audio from my 2nd gen (black) Apple TV and send it to a pair of wireless headphones. Unfortunately Apple TV (gen 2 and 3) won't pass the video through the unit (perhaps some type of copy protection?). This was news to the manufacturer who mentioned that it did work with Apple TV gen 1 (the white box).

The unit did appear to be well made and I was able to return the unit for a full refund. I wound up purchasing the "FiiO D3 Digital to Analog Audio Converter With Micca 6ft Optical Toslink Cable - 192kHz/24bit Optical and Coaxial DAC" for $23. It did the trick for a fraction of the cost. (NOTE: The FiiO unit strips audio from digital audio source and not HDMI, so it isn't exactly apples and apples - but since Apple TV outputs HDMI and digital, it served my needs.)
