I was hoping to find an alternative to the higher priced "Black Magic" converter, that cost $280, and this item works for my application. I have a Black magic ATEM switcher, and use hdmi camera's, but long cable runs are a problem. Converting to HDSDI makes the most sense, since the HDSDI signal path is robust, and the RG6 cable handles abuse better than cat 5e cable. The build quality on this converter is good, being that it is a metal shell. Something to be aware of is needing to use good quality HD rated cable. I first tried a standard RG59 cable and had a strange color shift from blue to red. Once I changed the cable to RG6, everything looked right. I do own a Black Magic converter as well, and this generic version seems to hold up to spec, and so far is worth the $130 I saved. I run 1080i signals into the switcher, and using a 250' run of RG6 worked great. Cannot confirm if 1080p has the same results? Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "HDMI to HD-SDI Converter - 3G-SDI & SD-SDI too" are high quality item.
